The fall program is a 20+ game schedule that allows Mt. Rainier players to continue the development of their baseball skills. The team consists of MR veterans along with some soon to be Mt. Rainier freshman baseball players. The games are scheduled as doubleheaders each weekend in September and October.
Rick McDermott, father of Senior player Aaron McDermott, has been the coach the past few years. Due to WIAA rules, the MR coaching staff is not allowed to coach during the fall and winter seasons. The fall season is a great chance for players to relax and work on certain aspects of their game. This team is by invite only due to the roster maximum of 20.
As a program we are dedicated to our players throughout their young baseball careers. We have organized summer and fall teams to continue the development each player's individual talent. Keeping our players together throughout each season helps us create a better program each year. Our main goal as a program is not only to win games, but to give each player a fair opportunity to play at the next level, college or professional.
Our summer program is a minimum 40 game schedule starting in late May until the end of July. We compete in the American Legion District #11 and play in about 3 tournaments each year. The summer schedule is very demanding and requires a player to play exclusively for one team. Unlike many other summer programs around the area, Big Horns is dedicated to Mt. Rainier players. We want our players to gain experience and knowledge for the future.
The Big Horns summer coaching staff consists of the same coaches from the Mt. Rainier spring program, however some roles are changed. Bobby Odegard and Joe Nelson take over the head coaching duties on the field. Darren Rawie becomes the teams off the field manager coordinating the schedule, travel plans and budget.
